Tracing Icons

A Vlog series that sees me travel around the world tracing the history of the icon, going to the monasteries and schools where the icons were painted, interviewing the monks and artists that are there, showcasing the painting process, etc. The series would be divided chronologically, starting at the locations where the earliest icons we know were painted, and showcase the process from that area and the evolution of their iconographic tradition. For example, one of the earlier episodes would see me at St Catherine’s Monastery in the Sinai Peninsula, where many famous icons are housed and where many more were painted. I would continue on to other places like Crete, Novgorod, Serbia, Romania, Aleppo, and many more. I would discuss the history of the icon painting tradition in each area and how that connected to the wider religious culture and life of the people in that area. I would visit various old churches where these icons were housed and showcase them on camera to the people watching so that they too can experience them from the comfort of home.
