\u201cAs concerned Canadians who deeply oppose American-style hate media on our airwaves, we applaud the CRTC\u2019s refusal to allow a new \u201cFox News North\u201d channel to be funded from our cable fees. We urge Mr. von Finckenstein to stay in his job and continue to stand up for Canada\u2019s democratic traditions, and call on Prime Minister Harper to immediately stop all pressure on the CRTC on this matter.\u201d THE VERBS ARE \u201cAPPLAUD,\u201d \u201cURGE,\u201d AND \u201cCALL ON;\u201d NOT \u201cBAN,\u201d \u201cSUPPRESS,\u201d AND \u201cCENSOR.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cFox News\u201d comparison is from the Sun\u2019s own CRTC Application # 1. Is it \u201cAmerican-style hate media?\u201d You judge.<\/p>\n

The CRTC refused Sun TV News\u2019 request for a special licence that forces all cable and satellite distributors to offer the station, thus generating almost automatic income. Application #2 \u2014 almost the same deal as #1, but for three years \u2014 will be considered. The Sun says it needs this special deal for its \u201cbusiness plan.\u201d Should it get one? Should anyone? Can I have one too?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This last point goes to the heart of the matter.\u00a0 Why, just because Sun News has applied<\/em> for the license, must it be granted <\/em>one?\u00a0 Hell, I’d love one of those myself — like Sun News I could have a “business plan” which includes making millions of dollars.\u00a0 Why should I be refused?\u00a0 If I’m not owed<\/em> it, why is Sun News?\u00a0 Particularly as they employ libel-spouting nincompoops<\/a> like Ezra Levant.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
