{"id":20398,"date":"2011-01-30T00:05:26","date_gmt":"2011-01-30T05:05:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fryeblog.blog.lib.mcmaster.ca\/?p=20398"},"modified":"2011-01-30T00:05:26","modified_gmt":"2011-01-30T05:05:26","slug":"one-hundred-percent-renewable-energy-by-2030","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/macblog.mcmaster.ca\/fryeblog\/2011\/01\/30\/one-hundred-percent-renewable-energy-by-2030\/","title":{"rendered":"One Hundred Percent Renewable Energy by 2030"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>httpv:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=e_VjibuRLyA<\/p>\n<p><em>An excerpt from a speech delivered on January 13th, 2011, by Mark Jacobson<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/news.stanford.edu\/news\/2011\/january\/jacobson-world-energy-012611.html\" target=\"_blank\">newly released paper<\/a> by professors Mark Jacobson and Mark Delucci of Stanford University suggests that we can, using existing technology and resources, convert to one hundred percent renewable energy as early as 2030.<\/p>\n<p>All that is required, of course, is the political will.\u00a0 And with climate change denialism being heavily funded by the likes of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/environment\/2009\/jul\/01\/exxon-mobil-climate-change-sceptics-funding\" target=\"_blank\">ExxonMobil<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/reporting\/2010\/08\/30\/100830fa_fact_mayer\" target=\"_blank\">Koch brothers<\/a> &#8212; who also have a good portion of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tnr.com\/article\/environment-energy\/magazine\/78208\/gop-global-warming-denial-insanity\" target=\"_blank\">Republican<\/a> members of Congress in pocket &#8212; that won&#8217;t happen just by wishing for it.<\/p>\n<p>The Koch brothers are also among the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/08\/29\/opinion\/29rich.html\" target=\"_blank\"> founders and funders<\/a> of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Astroturfing\" target=\"_blank\">astroturf<\/a> fraud passing for a populist movement, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/commentisfree\/cifamerica\/2010\/oct\/25\/tea-party-koch-brothers\" target=\"_blank\">Tea Party<\/a>, which, of course, is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/10\/21\/us\/politics\/21climate.html?_r=2&amp;nl=us&amp;emc=politicsemailema1\" target=\"_blank\">wholly on the side<\/a> of climate change denial.\u00a0 Finding the political will to address climate change in ways that are available to us now will require getting past pretty formidable powers who&#8217;ve already demonstrated the damage they can inflict upon the public discourse needed to make it happen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>httpv:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=e_VjibuRLyA An excerpt from a speech delivered on January 13th, 2011, by Mark Jacobson A newly released paper by professors Mark Jacobson and Mark Delucci of Stanford University suggests that we can, using existing technology and resources, convert to one hundred percent renewable energy as early as 2030.
