I certainly liked what he had to say in his preface to <a href=\"http:\/\/entertainment.timesonline.co.uk\/tol\/arts_and_entertainment\/the_tls\/article4905068.ece\" target=\"_blank\">his Dostoevsky book<\/a>. I thought it was quite impressive, and therefore I am looking forward to reading the book further. Having checked his <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rowan_Williams\" target=\"_blank\">bio out on wikipedia<\/a> I can also see that he has more than just that position I don\u2019t necessarily agree with.<\/p>\n<p>What you have to say reminds me, as a student of American literature, of the increasingly untenable and morally disgusting compromises on the issue of slavery that were made by the Northern States with the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Slave_Power\" target=\"_blank\">slave power in the South<\/a> in order to avoid \u201cschism.\u201d Any compromise was seen as preferable to the sundering of the Union, and it was all to no avail in the end anyway.
