There aren&#8217;t any good vegan options out there, so the option seems to be to make something!<\/p>\n<h2>Progress<\/h2>\n<p>*after thinking about what materials are built to withstand road friction, I spent an evening learning about polyurethane &#8211; particularly polyurethane sheeting<\/p>\n<dl>\n<dd>\n<ul>\n<li>rationale behind this: car tires, and then eventually realizing that a lot of skate wheels are made from urethane<\/li>\n<li>most valuable thing I learned &#8211; 70A is about the hardness of car tires, and most bike tires<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<ul>\n<li>places you can purchase urethane sheeting include:\u00a0<a class=\"urllink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.urethanestore.com\/store\/universal-urethane-products\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Universal Urethane<\/a>,\u00a0<a class=\"urllink\" href=\"https:\/\/prothane.ca\/main\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Prothane<\/a>,\u00a0<a class=\"urllink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.triurethane.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Tri-Urethane<\/a><\/li>\n<li>considered using kevlar bead folding road bike tires as a base material, but it seems like they&#8217;ll either be too narrow, or just as expensive or more as urethane sheeting, if perhaps simpler to source?<\/li>\n<li>one of my partners used\u00a0<a class=\"urllink\" href=\"https:\/\/diaryofarollergirl.wordpress.com\/2013\/04\/20\/diy-roller-skate-toe-covers\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">this tutorial<\/a>\u00a0to build zir toe guards, so planning to use this guide as well<\/li>\n<li>got quotes on urethane sheeting from the companies above\n<ul>\n<li>Prothane: $140 + $25 shipping<\/li>\n<li>Tri-Urethane: $115 + ??<\/li>\n<li>Universal Urethane Products: $39 + $30 shipping (from Ohio)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Overview The goal of this project is to make a set of roller skate toe guards that can protect my new gear while I&#8217;m learning how to skate outdoors on asphalt.
