His   book <em>Sociolinguistics and Literacies<\/em> (1990, Third Edition   2007) was one of the founding documents in the formation of the   &#8220;New Literacy Studies&#8221;, an interdisciplinary field devoted to studying language, learning, and literacy in cognitive, social, and cultural contexts.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Gee&#8217;s most recent books deal with video games, language and learning. <em>What Video Games Have to Teach Us About Learning and Literacy<\/em> (2003, Second Edition 2007) argues that good video   games are designed to enhance learning through effective learning principles. His most recent book is <em>Good Video Games and Good Learning: Collected   Essays<\/em> (2007).  Professor Gee has published widely in the fields of linguistics, psychology and education.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Closing Plenary<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stevenbell.info\/\"><strong>Steven Bell<br \/>\nAssociate University Librarian, Research and Instructional Services<\/strong><strong><br \/>\nTemple University<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Steven Bell conducts research and teaches in the areas of information technology and academic libraries. He is one co-author with John Shank of Academic Librarianship by Design: A Blended Librarian&#8217;s Guide to the Tools and Techniques (2007) and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blendedlibrarian.org\/\">Blended Librarians Online Community <\/a>.
