Project Goals

My aim with this project is to consider what it means to receive ‘good care’ when undergoing therapies. In particular, those centered on behaviour and psychology of autistic people seeking or in treatment.

To qualify for this study, you must be:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • You are a person with autism/autistic person, diagnosed clinically or self-affirmed
  • You must have received treatment by a psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, or psychotherapist for at least one year or more.
  • Therapy must have been in Canada or the United States at any time in your life

The study will involve the following:

  • I will invite you to take part in an online interview using Zoom. It will take between one to two hours of your time.
    • An alternative format is available in a fillable form PDF upon request
  • The interview will be scheduled at a time that is convenient for you.
  • You can request that I make adjustments to the way I interview you to accommodate your specific needs. Modifications could include: breaking the interview questions into smaller ones spread out at your convenience, alternative software for conducting the interview, text-based interviewing, and others you might think of.
  • Following the interview, I will ask you for visual descriptions of stories from the interview. This is so that I can illustrate them to your specifications.

You may stop or skip any stage of participation at any point after agreeing to take part in this study. You may also withdraw from the study at any time should you want to, up to March 31st, 2022. This is the date when I will be finalizing preparation of my thesis. I will anonymize your identity for privacy purposes.
