Hi,

My name is Bei Evely and I am doing a research project for my MA thesis, supervised by Dr Ellen Badone, in Anthropology at McMaster University. I am looking at the effects of care received by autistic people in therapy. I want to consider what it means to receive ‘good care’ when undergoing therapies. In particular, I focus on therapies centered on behaviour modification and psychology of autistic people seeking or in treatment.

I will present findings of this research in the form of graphic novel-style drawings as well as a written thesis. This study will look at mental health care services provided to autistic people in Canada and the United States. In this case, I am looking for the perspectives of autistic people themselves. This research project and the principal investigator of this project are not affiliated with organizations like Autism Speaks.

I am conducting this study as an autistic researcher with autistic audiences in mind.
